What is it about water? Until recently, I hadn't realized how drawn I am to it.
Last year when I hired Melissa McGill to edit my portfolio and website I handed over hundreds of photographs. When they came back grouped and paired, I found something remarkable that I'd never noticed before: a lot of my photographs feature water.
So it should come as no surprise that the first images I'm sharing with you from my recent trip to Istanbul, are of fishermen. In a city of nearly 14 million people, that is full of life, history, and stories, it's the fishermen along Galata Bridge that drew my lens.
These men—and I saw at least one woman—fish from the bridge at all hours of the day. I can't tell you exactly why I was drawn to photographing them, (hopefully the pictures will illustrate that) but there was a moment when I just thought: I could shoot an entire piece on these guys. (And if there are any photo editors reading this, psst: send me back to make this a full story).
I hope you enjoy these. There are more images from Istanbul to come. What a city!
